I am delighted to introduce Professor Alison Blenkinsopp to BPC as Managing Partner.
Alison is Professor of the Practice of Pharmacy at Keele University's Department of Medicines Management. She has researched and written widely on the management of minor illness, particularly by pharmacists and nurses. Recent publications have included a series of articles for nurse prescribers on managing minor illness, and the 5th edition of "Symptoms in the Pharmacy". She is currently working on a book for the public on managing minor illness. Alison is one of the academic advisers to the Joining Up Self Care project. She led the research on patient feedback in the recently completed community pharmacy medicines management study. Alison was a member of the Committee on Safety of Medicines for the last six years and continues to sit on the BNF Formulary Committee.
John has been appointed a Non Executive Director of LUTO Research Ltd.
LUTO (Leeds University Testing Organisation) is a newly established consumer information testing company, geared towards enabling UK pharma companies to meet the new user-testing requirements for medicine information leaflets.
Our goal is to work with pharma companies to develop and test medicine information leaflets to meet the legislative requirements of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), and allow patients to safely and effectively use the relevant medicines. This is delivered using high level expertise from within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Leeds, based on associated academic research, and input into policy and practice in the area of consumer medicines information in the UK and internationally.

Omeprazole goes from POM to P in the UK
Omeprazole has been launched as a Pharmacy (P) medicine in the UK as both a brand (Zanprol, by GSK) and as a number of generic products. The switch was instigated by Galpharm. I am delighted to be part of the team that facilitated this important POM to P switch.
The most interesting claim that Zanprol makes is: Taken once daily, Zanprol can provide relief from heartburn and, after treatment, can give weeks of remission from recurrent attacks.
To find out more about POM to P, see this document (112kB pdf file) and see the Zanprol official product information and promotion here.
